4-Day Fishing Itinerary in Belize
Day 1 – Arrival & Light Tackle Warm-Up
Base Location: San Pedro (Ambergris Caye) / Placencia / Hopkins
Focus: Settle in, light tackle reef fishing
- Morning:
- Arrival in Belize & transfer to your lodge/resort
- Check-in, unpack, and grab a local seafood lunch
- Afternoon:
- Half-day reef fishing trip
- Target: Snapper, grouper, jacks, and barracuda
- Light tackle warm-up, ideal for beginners and pros alike
- Evening:
- Enjoy your fresh catch for dinner (many restaurants offer “cook your catch”)
- Sunset drinks and briefing with your guide for the next day
Day 2 – Full-Day Flats Fishing Adventure
Focus: Flats fishing for bonefish, permit, and tarpon
- Early Morning:
- Depart at sunrise with experienced fly-fishing or spin-casting guide
- Head to the nearby flats (Ambergris Caye has top bonefish flats; Placencia is great for permit)
- All Day:
- Fly-fishing or spin casting for the “Grand Slam”
- Target species: Bonefish, permit, tarpon
- Lunch on a secluded sandbar or onboard
- Evening:
- Return to base
- Dinner at a local seafood grill or beachside restaurant
- Optional: Night fishing off the pier or beach
Day 3 – Deep Sea or Offshore Fishing

- Explore mangroves or jungle rivers (Sittee River, Monkey River, or Northern Rivers)
- Afternoon:
- Optional visit to a Maya ruin, spice farm, or cultural village
- Or, just relax on the beach with a cold drink
- Evening:
- Farewell dinner with your guide team
- Share stories, photos, and maybe even plan your return trip!
What to Bring
- Fishing license (your guide will usually arrange this)
- Sunscreen (reef safe), long-sleeve shirts, hat, polarized sunglasses
- Personal gear (if bringing your own rod or fly gear)
- Dry bag, water shoes, mosquito repellent
- Camera or GoPro for your catches
