• Celebrate heritage: The redesign spotlights Rt. Hon. George Price (featured on the $5, $20, and $100 bills) and Hon. Philip Goldson (on the $2, $10, and $50 bills) to honor their pivotal roles in Belize’s independence and civic life.
• Enhanced security: The overhaul strengthens anti-counterfeiting measures with next-gen features while maintaining the Belize dollar’s value and its fixed exchange rate of BZ$2 to US$1.

Who Is Behind the Design & Production?

• Design and production partner: The banknotes were designed and printed in collaboration with the British firm De La Rue International Ltd., a long-standing partner of the Central Bank of Belize since 1982.

Security & Aesthetic Innovations

• Advanced security elements: Features include holographic stripes, color-shifting threads, UV/magnetic components, see-through registers, and tilt effects that make counterfeiting significantly more challenging.
• Inclusive design features: Raised tactile bars and embossed elements assist the visually impaired in differentiating denominations by touch—a thoughtful step toward accessibility.
• Belizean identity: As De La Rue stated, these notes are intended to serve as a “business card” for Belize—visually rich, culturally resonant, and tough to forge.

Rollout Timeline & Public Reception

• Launch date: The new currency began circulating on August 4, 2025, with continued use of older notes during the transition.
• Public communication efforts: The Central Bank has been actively engaging schools, businesses, and the general public to facilitate a smooth transition.
• Mixed reactions: While many celebrate this move toward national pride and modernity, others have voiced concerns—especially regarding the absence of the British monarch and lack of broader public consultation. Personally, I love it!
