Sew Much Hemp
Barb’s journey to Belize in 1999 was guided by fate, as JAH cleared a path for her to discover a place where she felt truly at home.
Having met her husband, a fellow hemp activist, while living in Oregon, their shared passion for hemp led them to “So Much Hemp” in Eugene. Steve, who had been visiting Belize for years, introduced Barb to the country during a vacation in 1995. It was then that Barb learned about the substantial financial incentives the US provided to Central and South American countries towards marijuana prohibition in the early 80s.
Feeling a deep connection to Belize, Barb knew her future lay there. She had already played a crucial role in legalizing hemp in USA/Canada and facilitating medical marijuana legalization, sparking global momentum that eventually reached the United States.
Upon settling in Belize, Barb swiftly obtained residency and established her first shop in Sittee River, where Steve had purchased land. Traveling across Belize, she tirelessly educated people about hemp’s extraordinary benefits. In 2005, she relocated her shop to Hopkins. Though saddened by Steve’s passing in 2008, Barb persisted, continuing the legacy of “So Much Hemp” fueled by her unwavering belief in hemp’s medicinal properties.
Barb crafts each product meticulously from 100% organic and natural ingredients, passionately advocating for mindful consumption and supporting local resources. Her products, renowned for healing qualities against insect bites and sunburns, are available exclusively at her flagship store, “So Much Hemp,” housed in southern Hopkins.
Barb’s profound connection to Belize’s biodiversity drives her mission to educate and promote hemp legalization. Her bug repellents and sunburn lotions are highly sought after, praised by travelers, including a Lonely Planet reporter who sought refuge from Belize’s insects. Word of mouth and testimonials continue to highlight the efficacy of her products.
Visitors are welcomed to “So Much Hemp” with free samples and Barb’s warm hospitality. Her dedication to hemp advocacy and sustainable living resonates throughout her community and beyond, making her a pivotal figure in Belize’s eco-conscious movement.
